Abstract

We analyze the properties of a model YBa2Cu3O9−y system by means of a Landau-Ginzburg free-energy model with coupled superconducting and oxygen-vacancy order parameters. When bulk superconductivity takes place (at T<Tc0) below the oxygen-vacancy ordering temperature (at T0) a purely interfacial superconducting transition at vacancy inhomogeneities generated by twin boundaries in orthorhombic crystals occurs at Tctwin>Tc0. We estimate parameters that give T0∼900 K, Tc0∼40 K, and Tctwin∼100 K when vacancies on the copper planes reach ∼45%.
