Abstract
The new high-Tc oxide superconductors are generally studied in polycrystalline form. Since their transport properties are highly anisotropic (two dimensional), important questions arise as to how to interpret measured resistivities, Hall constants, and critical fields in terms of the underlying anisotropic values. This paper provides the answer to these questions within the context of an effective-medium theory. As an illustration, the anisotropies of Hc1 and Hc2 are determined from measurements on polycrystalline samples, and compared to experiments on single crystals.
