Abstract

Photocurrent measurements across junctions between polycrystalline La2−xSrxCuO4 and aqueous electrolyte show that the valence-band edge of the oxide is at 4.8 eV below the vacuum level for both x=0 and x=0.15. From an analysis of the photocurrent spectra interband transitions are found at 1.75 eV (indirect) and 2.19 eV (direct) in La2CuO4, and at 1.59 eV (indirect) and 2.60 eV (direct) in La1.85Sr0.15CuO4.
