Abstract

Longitudinal-ultrasonic-attenuation α(T) in the strongly correlated heavy-fermion superconductors UBe13 and UPt3 shows an unusual peak below the superconducting transition temperature Tc. This feature can arise from a purely normal-state property, namely the large, heavy-electron effective mass me*. Thus, the peak may not necessarily be an indication of anisotropic superconductivity.
