Abstract
Generalized Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson models, introduced for describing heavy-fermion and, possibly, high-Tc superconductors, are studied using the Ginzburg criterion and a renormalization-group treatment. The ε analysis indicates a lack of stable fixed points which is related to first-order phase transitions.
