Abstract

In a recent paper Chen, Phillips, and McCann [Phys. Rev. B 39, 2744 (1989)] reported on the existence of trapped O2 in high-Tc superconductors on the basis of laser-based desorption methods. We point out that their method of surface preparation by laser ablation could generate trapped O2 and that the surface temperature reached during their laser-desorption experiment is sufficient to thermally desorb O2 from the bulk.
