Abstract

The discovery of high-Tc superconductivity in electron-doped cuprate compounds is certainly a test for the theories proposed for the hole-doped systems. In this work it is shown that a charge-transfer mechanism similar to the one proposed for hole-doped CuO2 and BiO3 systems allows pairing of the electrons in the CuO2 layers. Only the modification of the parameter values, due to the different T’ structure without apical O2− ions, must be taken into account. The observation of Cu+ ions in Nd2−xCexCuO2 as well as the presence of O 2p holes give support to this picture.
