Abstract

Based on the linear-response theory for a multiband system, the coefficient of the London equation is calculated for the case when a pair is not the usual Cooper one in the conduction band of a metal but is composed of valence and conduction electrons in insulators, semiconductors, and semimetals. The coefficient is, in general, not zero to ensure an infinite dc conductivity, but its sign depends on the details of the system.
