Abstract

We calculate the photoemission spectrum and the density of states for a model of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 consisting of a narrow two-dimensional band and interactions due to exchange of phonons (α2F) and spin fluctuations. As T is decreased below Tc, we obtain in the photoemission (density of states) a narrow BCS-like peak, a smaller peak at lower (higher) energy, and a minimum between these two peaks. This is in qualitative agreement with photoemission and scanning-tunnel-microscope measurements. These features are caused by a peak in α2F at low energy and by the gapped spin fluctuation spectrum. We find also that the energy gap opens up more rapidly below Tc than the BCS gap.
