Abstract

We have analyzed the energy gaps and density of states (DOS) of layered superconductors with two inequivalent layers in a unit cell in the c-axis direction. In the physically interesting parameter range where the interlayer hopping strengths of the quasiparticles are comparable to the critical temperature, the DOS curves have a double-peak structure, where the extra peaks are manifestations of interband pairing. Unlike BCS superconductors, the peaks are logarithmic singularities. Our simulated tunneling characteristics bear close resemblance to experimental results.
