Abstract

In previous work estimates showed that observed static deformations of their crystal lattices into soft modes can explain observed high values of Tc in La2−xBaxCuO4 and YBa2Cu3O7−δ. In a different calculation dealing with conventional superconductivity an attempt was made to derive the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) equations from microscopic BCS wave functions. Combining these developments, the origin of the anomalously high values of the GL coefficients α and β characterizing high-Tc materials is indicated here. Good agreement with experiments for GL quantities ξ and λL is obtained for YBa2Cu3O7−δ.
