Abstract

We present the observation of Josephson self-coupling in NbAlOxNb tunnel junctions. In current-voltage characteristics, anomalous subharmonic gap structures were observed; steep current steps and peaks which were sensitive to the magnetic field appeared at the voltages of 2Δ3e and 2Δ5e. The characteristics of these structures could not be explained by multiparticle tunneling and/or multiple Andreev reflection. We conclude that the structures at 2Δ3e and 2Δ5e are due to Josephson self-coupling.
