Abstract

We studied the onset of dissipation in polycrystalline high-Tc superconductors by the use of high-resolution I-V and I-dV/dI measurements. Universal features of the nonlinear I-V characteristics have been related to the critical exponents t and s of percolation theory and to the percolation threshold concentration which in our model underlies the concept of critical current. The model allows a determination of the conductivity exponent t from a single characteristic and gives, as an experimental result, t=1.95.
