Abstract
Transport experiments show that the effective carriers in the cuprates scale with dopants. But it was found in recent photoemission experiments that doping builds electronic states into the undoped energy gap and that the Fermi surfaces are consistent with the local-density-approximation theory so that the effective carriers scale with the total carriers. These contradictory phenomena and some others in the cuprates can be understood in the frame of a consistent and nesting-independent incommensurate Hartree-Fock theory of the doped Hubbard model.
