Abstract
Calculations are presented of the energy barriers between topologically different configurations of two entangled vortex lines in a superconductor. The results suggest that the line-cutting barriers in high-Tc superconductors are somewhat larger than previous numerical estimates indicated, but not large enough to support a kinetic ‘‘polymer glass’’ interpretation of the irreversibility line in fields much greater than Hc1. The consequences of a crossing barrier for transport properties are discussed briefly.
