Abstract
I analyze the effect of an interplane single-electron hopping between two bidimensional t-J lattices on the superconducting transition temperature. Mean-field theories of the t-J model predict d-wave superconductivity at a very high temperature (Tc0≊0.15J). I show that a single-electron hopping can reduce strongly the critical temperature Tc0. For sufficiently large values of the hopping parameter, superconductivity is suppressed for doping lower than a critical finite doping δc, and the critical temperature Tc0 assumes practically a constant value at intermediate doping 0.08≤δ≤0.24. These results are in good qualitative agreement with the well-known phase diagram of the high-Tc copper oxides.
