Abstract

Quasiclassical theory has been used to study the Josephson effect for the junction consisting of high-Tc superconductor, insulator layer, and high-Tc superconductor. Our result shows that for the d-wave pairing state and certain crystal orientations of the two superconductors, the current phase relation has the form I(φ)=Icsin(2φ). Thus, the main Shapino step and Fraunhof diffraction pattern have the forms V=hν/4e and Imax(Φ)=Ic‖sin(2πΦ/Φ0)/(2πΦ/Φ0)‖, respectively. We have compared our result with those of other types of Josephson junctions and discussed the implication of this property in identifying the pairing state symmetry of the high-Tc superconductors.
