Abstract

A major problem in the theory of high-Tc superconductivity is to what extent the superconducting properties are bound to the two dimensionality of the CuO2 planes, and how the extension into the third dimension is achieved by the coupling between adjacent CuO2 planes. A theory, based on an interplane single-electron hopping between two-dimensional t-J lattices, is used to explain the Tc depression, recently observed in iodine-intercalated Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox. The effect of interlayer coupling on high-Tc superconductivtiy is discussed.
