Abstract
We investigate how anisotropy in the pairing interaction gets reflected in the ac optical conductivity of an Eliashberg superconductor in the pure limit and for arbitrary finite amounts of impurity scattering. To illustrate results, we assume cylindrical symmetry with a tight binding hopping probability for motion perpendicular to the plane and free-electron propagation in the planes. We find that the pure and dirty limits are not suitable for the study of anisotropy and that these effects show up most clearly in the conductivity for intermediate impurity scattering. ©1996 The American Physical Society.
