Abstract

The peak effect in single crystals of the superconductor Ca3Rh4Sn13 has been investigated by dc magnetization, ac susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and critical current measurements in applied magnetic fields. The transition from a weakly pinned region to a strongly pinned region is mapped out in the H-T phase diagram. The results on the superconducting stannides, Ca3Rh4Sn13 and Yb3Rh4Sn13, are found to be similar to that obtained on some heavy fermion and intermediate valence superconductors.
