Abstract

The magnetization of ideal type-II superconductors without vortex pinning is derived from first principles for superconductors with constant thickness. This magnetization is irreversible due to a macroscopic geometric barrier for flux penetration at the edges, which yields a sharply defined entry field Hen. Above some reversibility field Hrev>Hen the magnetization becomes reversible and coincides with that of an ideal ellipsoid.
