Abstract

A quantum theory for a superconductor-charge-density wave-superconductor junction is proposed, the equivalent circuit of which is a Josephson junction coupled to a charge density wave in parallel. The corresponding Hamiltonian is found to resemble that of a two-dimensional electron on a periodic potential, where the coupling introduces a term like a vector potential. We also examine ground-state property coupled to an external driving, and predict the voltage plateaus called quantum Shapiro steps.
