Abstract

We study the local density of states near a single impurity in a d-wave superconductor, while taking into account the effect of the anisotropic impurity scattering. In the presence of the non-s-wave scattering channels, it is possible to have a bound state at the Fermi energy even for the finite strengths of impurity scattering. This is in sharp contrast to the purely s-wave impurity potential in which the bound state can be induced only in the unitarity limit. We also discuss the effect of the magnetic moment of an impurity atom. A resonance peak of a nonmagnetic impurity can be split into two by the magnetic moment.
