Abstract

The main features of the c-axis infrared optical conductivity of a dx2−y2-wave superconductor with the interlayer hopping assisted by the spin fluctuations are investigated theoretically. It is surprising to find that the interlayer hopping assisted by the spin fluctuations not only gives rise to the pseudogap structure of the c-axis infrared optical conductivity, but also leads to a broad peak anomaly of the c-axis infrared optical conductivity in the superconducting state. Based on these results, we propose an interpretation of the broad peak anomaly observed in the c-axis infrared optical conductivity of underdoped YBa2Cu3O6+x in the superconducting state. Namely, we argue that this broad peak anomaly originates from the mechanism of the interlayer hopping assisted by the spin fluctuations.
