Abstract
We report a new result on two-detector coincidence Doppler and lifetime spectroscopic measurements as a function of temperature (12–300 K) in the MgB2 superconductor. Coincidence Doppler measurements in Mg, B, and MgB2 indicate that the positrons annihilate primarily in the boron sublattice in MgB2. The positron lifetime in MgB2 is seen to decrease at the onset of superconductivity. These results provide direct evidence of charge density fluctuations in the boron layer associated with the superconducting transition.
