Abstract

Density of states (DOS) and supercurrents in clean anisotropic superconductor/normal metal/anisotropic superconductor Josephson junctions (weak links with transparent interfaces) are studied theoretically. Two types of anisotropic order parameter are considered: d wave with dx2−y2 symmetry and extended s wave with eight nodes (s* wave). It is shown that in both cases Andreev bound zero-energy state can appear in the equilibrium state of the junction, and typical differences between d-wave and s*-wave DOS are presented. Another way to distinguish between the two types of symmetry is found in different anisotropic behavior of the critical current. Possible application to experiments is briefly discussed.
