Abstract
Dynamical properties of an exponentially shaped Josephson junction are investigated theoretically using a simple one-dimensional model described by a modified sine-Gordon equation. An approximate analytical solution is based on the linearization about a rotating background and consists of a flux-flow term accompanied by two oppositely directed plasma waves. Analytical results are compared with direct numerical simulations both for the magnetic field distribution within the junction and for the current-voltage characteristics.
