Abstract

We present a study of Zeeman splitting effects in the phase diagram of multiple-band superconductors. In the particular case of a two-band superconductor, several free energy local minima are present at low temperature leading to an enriched phase diagram. In particular, at low temperature and for small interband coupling, a first-order phase transition occurs between two superconducting phases. As the interband coupling grows, this transition approaches the first order transition to the normal phase and then disappears, leaving behind a region of enhanced fluctuations. A cascade of first-order transitions is expected in the N-band case.
