Abstract
The problem of the order of the phase transition in p-wave superconductors is considered. In the extreme type-I regime, the transition is fluctuation-induced first order. Outside of that regime, the theory is controlled by generalizing the order parameter to have n components, with n⪢1, in analogy to the treatment of s-wave superconductors by Halperin et al. Both an ϵ expansion about d=4 and a large-n expansion suggest that the transition is first order for the physical case n=6 in d=3. This result is analogous to what is known about the s-wave case, and caveats analogous to that case apply.
