Abstract

The filled-skutterudite superconductor ThPt4Ge12 was studied in the normal state by means of thermoelectric power, magnetoresistance, and Hall-coefficient measurements. The results indicate that this compound exhibits a two-band conductivity with strongly temperature-dependent carrier concentrations and mobilities. At low temperatures, the charge transport is dominated by the contribution due to slowly moving electrons. The experimental findings were corroborated by the results of electronic band-structure calculations performed by the relativistic full-potential local-orbital method.
