Abstract

We examine the possibility of finding both supersymmetry and charged Higgs bosons at the Superconducting Super Collider. If the H± is not much heavier than the W± and the top quark is heavy enough to decay into real H±, then for some parameter space both channels t→b+H+ and t→b+W+ are compatible. When kinematically allowed, the H± will primarily decay into supersymmetric channels. In particular, we studied the decay mode H+→l++γ̃+γ̃+νl. The main background to the above process comes from the top-quark decay into a real W± boson, followed by a subsequent semileptonic decay of the W±. Using the Webber-Marchesini Monte Carlo program HERWIG, we produced 1000 fully hadronized events of pp→tt¯X, at a center-of-mass energy of 40 TeV, followed by the tt¯ decay into the above channels. A full comparison between the H± and the W± modes was performed in the search for a detectable signal. We used top-quark masses of 100, 150, and 200 GeV and H± masses of 90 and 105 GeV. We find that although there are some differences in the missing-pT distribution, as well as in the angular distribution of the events, the low cross section for H± production makes the signal undetectable for most of the parameter space.
