Abstract
Within the theory of weak collective pinning a random pin ensemble is completely characterized by its "strength" W and "range" rp. We give, for the first time, a definition of rp and calculate W and rp for a very general case. For point pins we find W∼b at b≲0.3 (b is reduced induction), and rp=0.195a (a is flux-line spacing) except for b<<1 or low temperatures where rp≈radiusoftheflux−linecore. For extended pins rp=0.195a always holds but W(b) depends on the type and size of the pins.
