Abstract

Charge transport in insulating and superconducting samples of Bi2Sr2(Caz, Pr1−z)Cu2O8+y is analyzed in terms of the Hall mobility μ(T)=RH(T)ρ(T). Insulating samples (z≤0.5) show a crossover from a hopping between localized states at low temperatures (dμ−1dT<0) to a delocalized metallic regime (dμ−1dT>0) at high temperatures. For hole contents just sufficient to obtain superconductivity (z>0.5) we still observe such a minimum in the inverse mobility, although the resistivity ρ(T) is purely metallic (dρdT>0). This indicates that the Cooper pairs are formed by states which are spatially localized.
