Abstract

We have substituted copper with iron in high-Tc Ba2YCu3O7−δ and formed Ba2YCu3(1−x)Fe3xO7−δ. It is found that Tc decreases with an increase of the Fe concentration, and the superconductivity is destroyed at x=0.15. X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the material has an orthorhombic perovskite structure with larger lattice parameters and smaller Δ(a−b) than Ba2YCu3O7−δ. Magnetic measurements show that the doped samples possess considerable paramagnetism. The effect of Fe on the superconductivity of Ba2YCu3O7−δ is discussed in detail.
