Abstract

A steplike increase in the critical current density with the magnetic field was observed for a thin superconducting Pb-Tl film in a longitudinal field geometry by Blamire and Evetts Phys. Rev. B 33 5131 1986. This steplike increase corresponds to a penetration of a row of fluxoids into the superconducting film. Blamire and Evetts attributed this critical current density to the cutting threshold between the fluxoids. In this paper the author comments that the flux-pinning interaction is also a possible mechanism to explain such a steplike increase. Temperature dependences derived from the two mechanisms are compared with the experimental result. The observed dependence deviates from the prediction from the flux cutting but can be explained by the flux pinning.
