Abstract

The electric-field gradient at the Cu site in YBa2Cu3O7−δ is calculated using the molecular orbitals obtained from a cluster calculation. The effects of the cluster geometry, cluster charge, and orbital occupation are studied, and the relation to nuclear-quadrupole-resonance frequencies is discussed. The same type of calculation is performed for clusters with Fe replacing Cu and compared with results of Mössbauer spectra.
