Abstract

The Madelung potential of each possible ordered superlattice of YBa2Cu3O6+x is calculated as the oxygen content x varies from zero to 1. ΔVA, the difference in Madelung site potential between apex and in-plane (CuO2) oxygen atoms, is presented as a function of the composition x. The correlation of Tc and x is discussed in terms of Ohta’s empirical curve of Tc vs ΔVA. The theoretical results suggest that the superconductivity depends on the superlattice structure.
