Abstract
We show how the one-electron thermally averaged density matrix ρ(1’,1,T)==〈Ψ*(1’)Ψ(1)〉==N〈Fd(2,...,N)Ψ* (1’,...,n)Ψ(1,...,N)〉 varies with the superconducting gap parameter Δ(T). It is suggested how these results can be applied to experiments that probe the density matrix. In particular it is suggested that the x-ray structure factor F(G) should be an ideal probe of the change in ρ(r) as a material goes superconducting. We also discuss how our results can be applied to recent analysis of atomic pair distribution functions (PDF) coming from measurements of diffuse scattering of pulsed neutrons on the thallium high-Tc materials.
