Abstract

We calculate some superconducting properties of the high-Tc materials, namely, the density of states, the NMR rate, and the electromagnetic absorption, making the basic assumption that inelastic pair-breaking scattering is responsible for the non-BCS behavior of these quantities. We use a formalism developed for superconductors containing paramagnetic impurities and generalize it to the case of inelastic scattering. For the frequency dependence of the self-energy we assume marginal-Fermi-liquid behavior. Our calculations yield gapless superconductivity and good qualitative agreement with experiment.
