Abstract

Stepwise zero-field-cooled, field-cooled-cooling (FCC), and field-cooled-warming (FCW) magnetization measurements have been made on YBa2Cu3O7−δ single crystals in small magnetic fields applied in the ab plane and along the c axis. In a narrow temperature range below the FCC-Tc onset (≊2 K) the magnetization shows ‘‘quasihysteretic’’ behavior in temperature. FCC and FCW paths do not coincide, FCW having lower magnetizations. We interpret the accompanying lower FCW-Tc onset, in analogy to findings on nonmetallic spin glasses, as a result of the continuous succession of temperature steps.
