Abstract
We use the effective-action approach to quantum-field theory to study some of the thermodynamic properties of a charged ideal nonrelativistic gas of spin-0 bosons in a weak external magnetic field. It is shown how Bose-Einstein condensation and the Meissner-Oschenfeld effect arise. By using generalized ζ functions and dimensional regularization a very complete analysis for a space of arbitrary dimension can be given.
