Abstract
Calculations of the field profiles and current distributions at the remanence state of N×N square-columnar Josephson-junction arrays with two vortices show that, although it is possible for each vortex to contain a flux appreciably less than Φ0/2 when N=25, it is still an incomplete vortex of the conventional Φ0 type since this flux approaches Φ0 continuously as N→∞. This phenomenon is explained by the unique feature of gauge-invariant phase differences and the Josephson energy in such arrays.
