Abstract
We present evidence that the healing length of the order parameter near a surface of an anisotropic superconductor in not always the coherence length as in s-wave superconductors. Rather, the healing length is the coherence length only near a surface which is a high-symmetry plane, while near surfaces which are off a high-symmetry plane this length is the quasiparticle diffusion length. We show that the order parameter near surfaces which are off high symmetry is strongly suppressed, leading, among other things, to inferior properties of high-Tc junctions formed across such surfaces.
