Abstract
Based on a random-phase approximation, we study the superconducting (SC) gap in orthorhombic high-Tc cuprates by considering the anisotropic hopping (tx,ty) along two lattice directions. With tx∕ty>1, it is found that the SC gap shows an obvious anisotropy with ∣Δ(0,π)∣>∣Δ(π,0)∣, and the gap node deviates from the diagonal direction toward the kx direction. This is consistent with the recent experiments. However, we find a perplexity for consistent explaining the anisotropy in the SC gap and spin fluctuations if only the anisotropic hopping integral is considered. We show that a possible solution to this difficulty is to include the coupling between the plane and chain, in addition to the effect of the anisotropic energy band.
