Cuprate interfaces: layer order and localization

Compare an interface study with a layer-selective localization experiment, while keeping measurement criteria and source access separate.

Read layer order and criterion together

Gozar’s author version defines I as La2CuO4, M as La1.55Sr0.45CuO4, and S as oxygen-doped La2CuO4+δ. The first letter denotes the layer nearest the substrate. Its typical resistive midpoints are approximately 15 K for I–M and 30 K for M–I; ozone-treated M–S structures reach about 50 K. These are distinct preparations.

Thickness and screening analyses constrain a roughly one-to-two-unit-cell interfacial region within their models. Microscopy bounds cation intermixing around one unit cell; it does not prove atomically perfect chemistry. The authors retain several possible enhancement mechanisms.

What the single-plane abstract supports

Logvenov and colleagues describe molecular-beam-grown metal/insulator bilayers, with each block three unit cells thick. Layer-selective Zn substitution acts as a suppressing marker; their abstract attributes the interface superconductivity to one CuO2 plane.

This is a localization inference in a heterostructure, not an isolated free-standing plane. The full methods, Zn profile and calibration have not been reviewed here. No new composition or transition-temperature record is assigned from the abstract. The publisher’s deposited editorial summary and the original abstract are also kept distinct.

Compare evidence without combining experiments

An editorial comparison should retain the sample stack, treatment, observable and criterion for each result. A thickness-dependent transition, a screening model and a layer-selective perturbation answer related but different questions. A model-dependent length estimate should not be silently converted to a direct spatial image. Nor does localization alone determine the highest achievable transition temperature or select a unique pairing mechanism.

Pressure-quenched Hg1223 is a separate preparation problem. The Hg1223 research note preserves its specimen histories; those results should not be entered as cuprate-interface measurements.

What remains in the inherited series

This note covers studies 2 and 9. Studies 3 and 5 have separate magnetic-excitation and THz conductivity notes. Superfluid-density scaling, ultrafast crystallography, proximity effects, antiferromagnetism, the superconductor–insulator transition and the plasmon study remain separate review tasks.

The repaired parsed-file directory contains curated source notes, not original-paper transcriptions. A bibliography is not a checked primary passage.

Editorial corrections and provenance

  • Source coverage: Only sections 2 and 9 are represented here; section 5 has a separate note. Six studies and other CROSS claims remain pending.
  • Evidence depth: Separate selected author passages from abstract-only localization evidence; retain the unresolved methods review.
  • Transfer of conclusions: Keep localization, transition criteria and mechanistic interpretation separate.
