Abstract

On the basis of a two-dimensional tight-binding model, the eigenstates of quasiparticles in a d-wave superconductor with a {110} surface at the ground state, T=0 K, are investigated through self-consistently solving the Bogoliubov–de Gennes equation. The order parameter is considerably suppressed near the surface. The existence of bound surface states critically depends on a parameter ky (the parallel component of the wave number vector to the surface). Besides the midgap states which exist in regions 0<|ky|<km and π−km<|ky|<π, it is found that at ky with |ky|<kn or |π−kn|<|ky|, there can also appear a number of surface states with nonzero energies. The parameters km and kn are close to the Fermi wave number k0 in the y direction, and kn<km<k0.
