Abstract

We have studied the infrared spectroscopies and the resistivity of the La1.85−xPrxSr0.15CuO4 samples, La1.85−2xSr0.15+2xCu1−xMnxO4 samples, and La1.85Sr0.15Cu1−xMgxO4 samples. Two infrared transmission peaks of ν1=513cm−1 and ν2=683cm−1 are identified to be those of the c-axis stretching mode and the in plane Cu-O stretching mode. The experimental results indicate that the appearance of the ν2 peak is always along with the metal-insulator transition. We suggest that the coupling of the ν2 mode phonon with hole carrier leads to an extra energy gap, which is the origin of the metal-insulator transition in La2−xSrxCuO4 superconductors.
